I've been dedicated to empowering women and promoting diversity within the tech and creative sectors for close to 20 years. Recognizing the importance of representation and inclusion, I've championed initiatives to foster a supportive community, including starting the Women in Tech NZ Group and a podcast series Heroines, Women in Tech. By actively engaging with underrepresented groups and advocating for their needs, I strive to create spaces where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives.

As Founder and Director at Maslow, my role goes beyond just creating diverse teams; it's about cultivating work environments where all individuals from all backgrounds can thrive. Through targeted strategies and inclusive practices, I help organizations build cultures that celebrate differences and leverage the strengths of every individual. By fostering belonging and amplifying diverse voices, we not only drive innovation but also create a more equitable future for all.

 

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION POLICY

Maslow recognises that diversity and inclusion are steeped in systemic and historical issues. We need to approach this in a pragmatic way by better engaging and supporting all underrepresented groups within the business. To do this, we believe we also need to address honestly and head-on the concerns and needs of our diverse employees and increase equity for all, including ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+, disabled, and women.
We agree that we must do more. For us, this means committing to goals we believe will catalyse open and honest conversations that are actionable, both with the service we provide to our candidates and to the client companies we work with, with an aim to foster better collaboration and conversation.

  1. We will continue to advocate diversity, inclusion and belonging with the workplaces we will work.
    We will help to emphasise and create environments, where people feel comfortable reaching out to their colleagues to gain greater awareness of each other's experiences and perspectives. By encouraging an ongoing dialogue and not tolerating any incongruence with these values of openness, we are building trust, encouraging compassion and open-mindedness, and reinforcing our commitment to a culture of inclusivity.

  2. We will implement and expand unconscious bias education:
    We all have unconscious bias. Education enables individuals to begin recognising, acknowledging, and therefore minimising any potential blind spots they may have. We will commit to rolling out and/or expanding unconscious bias education within our company and encourage this with the organisations we work with. We believe this will help to facilitate more open and honest conversations.

  3. We will share D&I best practices: Maslow will aim to implement and share best practices and continue to evolve and develop better strategies. We will commit to helping other companies evolve and enhance their current diversity strategies and encourage them, in turn, to share their successes and challenges with others.

We also promise to create accountability systems to track our own progress and to share regular updates to ensure we have effective measurement practices. We believe that by sharing and learning with each other, we can strengthen our existing programs and commitments to better serve our employees and society. By working together toward diversity and inclusion within our workplaces, industries, and broader business community, we can cultivate meaningful change for our society.
